Graduation Ceremony Information

Dear Parents of the Class of 2021:

Your child has reached the important milestone of high school graduation!  Congratulations to you both.  It is an exciting time where we look forward to the graduation ceremony, to celebrating the accomplishments of each student, and it is also a send-off for their future.  While the past year has been incredibly different than we had hoped, I want to express how much I adore the class of 2021 and how proud I am of them.  They are an amazing class full of talent, heart, and tenacity.

This letter is to share more information on the special events ahead as the class prepares for their graduation.  As we shared earlier this year, we have planned for an in-person commencement ceremony, in addition to a graduation parade.  On behalf of the faculty and staff of Roseburg High School, I want to extend this invitation to the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 to be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. and to their graduation parade, beginning at 4 PM that same day.  Please see enclosed documents for more information on the graduation parade.

To have an in-person ceremony, we must follow strict COVID-19 safety requirements.  First, we must limit the number of guests to just 15% of the stadium seating at Finlay Field.  This will allow each student to invite just four guests to attend in person.  Guests must wear face coverings, sit in an assigned area, and keep socially distant from other family groups.  The four tickets for each graduate will be given to the graduates during the graduation practice on Friday, June 4, and will include the assigned seating area number.  Each of the four seating areas will have a separate entrance and will open at 10:15 AM on June 5.

The commencement ceremony will be live streamed on the Roseburg Public Schools YouTube Channel for those who cannot attend in person.  Additionally, Audiss Photo Company will be filming the event to create a keepsake video memory for our graduates to be released at a later time.

In this letter you will find commencement information and expectations.  This is to ensure the quality of our graduation ceremony for all students and families.  This is a time which parents, graduates, and our community can be proud of our dignified and meaningful ceremony.  The attached form cites the conduct statement and dress standards.  Responsible and appropriate attire is expected of all the participants.  Behavior expectations for the event are the same as other school events; anything that distracts from the ceremony may result in your son/daughter being removed from the ceremony.  Beach balls, bubbles, and other items can be a distraction to honoring students who have worked hard for 13 years to achieve this benchmark.  Our senior classes have always been exemplary in how they honored one another in a most respectful and celebratory graduation ceremony.  I am confident that you will agree with these expectations and procedures.

Students who do not wish to participate in the ceremony may elect to pick up their diploma after June 5, 2021.  Participation in the graduation ceremony is based upon personal choice.  However, all state and local credit and course requirements must be completed before a student will be allowed to participate in the ceremony and receive a diploma.  Please be aware of where your student stands with regards to their required credits.  Seniors who have completed all their credits and are in good standing for graduation may complete their last day of classes on Wednesday, June 2.  Any senior still working on assignments or credits will need to attend school Thursday, June 3.  All course completions, credits, and on-line and UCC class credit verifications, must be done by 12:00 PM, Thursday, June 3.  If a senior has not completed those requirements by 12:00 PM, Thursday, June 3, they will not be able to participate in the graduation practice on June 4 or the ceremony on June 5.  Please also be aware of any fees or outstanding bills.  These are to be paid by Friday, June 4, 2021 for the student to receive their commemorative diploma.  If the bills are not paid in full, students may still participate in the graduation ceremony and can also request their transcripts.

Please ensure that your son or daughter completes the Graduation Standards Commitment form by checking the appropriate space, signing your names, and returning the form to the Main Office at Roseburg High School by May 14.

All students who go through the commencement line will be photographed by a contracted professional photographer as they receive their diploma folder from one of the School Board members.  Students and parents will be sent a free proof with the option to purchase copies of the photograph if they choose to do so.  Since there is this photographic service, and more importantly, so parents/family members can see their own student graduate, there will not be access to the field during the formal ceremony (except for graduates and staff members).  We ask for your cooperation with this request so that all may view and enjoy the ceremony.

We are very proud of our graduating seniors and are making every effort to have a ceremony that will make them proud.  We thank you for your cooperation and support.  The information included in this mailing will ensure a successful graduation ceremony that will reflect the outstanding record achieved by the Class of 2021.

Sincerely,

Jill Weber, Principal
