Message from Mr. Vickery

Dear RHS Students and Families,
As we wrap up the first quarter, I want to take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication our students have shown so far this school year. The end of the first quarter is a great time to reflect on accomplishments and set goals for the remainder of the semester.

Grades and credits at the end of the semester are determined by your performance across both quarters, so staying focused and consistent through the second quarter is key to success. Now is the perfect time to review progress, seek help from teachers when needed, and make sure all assignments are completed on time.

I also want to remind everyone that attendance and being on time play a major role in academic achievement. Regular attendance helps students stay engaged, understand class material, and maintain strong connections with their teachers and peers. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

Let’s finish the semester strong by showing up, staying engaged, and putting forth our best effort every day.

Omnilert AI Gun Detection System Test

Our district security team will be conducting a second operational test of our new Omnilert AI Gun Detection system. This technology is a critical layer of our security systems and is designed to rapidly detect potential threats and increase response times.

This strictly controlled system test is scheduled for 5 to 7 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, prior to the start of the school day. The goal of this test is to ensure system accuracy in a real-world scenario. To achieve this, our uniformed School Resource Officers from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and district security staff will be on campus.

Please note that to properly test the system, SROs will be briefly handling their authorized, unloaded service firearms and other similar objects in highly restricted areas of campus.

We are sharing this information to eliminate confusion and prevent unnecessary alarm. In the extremely unlikely event that you or someone else observes a uniformed SRO handling a firearm during this test period, please do not call 911. This activity is a planned, authorized and controlled security test. Calling 911 could divert emergency resources from a true crisis.

We will not be disclosing specific locations of the test areas, as this information is critical to our overall safety strategy.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we work to enhance the safety of our students and staff. If you have any questions, please reach out to District Safety Coordinator Jeff Eichenbusch at jeichenbusch@roseburg.k12.or.us.

Being On Time To School Matters

clock
Students who drive themselves and families that bring students to school, please know that arriving at school on time is absolutely essential for numerous reasons. Firstly, it instills a sense of responsibility and discipline, both vital for success in academic and future professional endeavors. Punctuality enables students to make the most of learning opportunities, ensuring they do not miss important instructions or discussions at the beginning of class. Being on time also minimizes disruptions for both the teacher and fellow classmates, thus contributing to a more focused and productive learning environment. Furthermore, consistent punctuality nurtures positive habits, displays respect for others' time, and helps students build valuable time management skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Cell Phone/Digital Device Reminder

Personal Electronic Devices - The State of Oregon (EO #25-09) will require school boards to develop a policy that prohibits the use of personal electronic devices capable of making and receiving calls or text messages and accessing the Internet independently of the school’s infrastructure from the start to the end of school hours. As our board creates this policy, we will encourage students not to use electronic devices during passing times and lunch. During instructional time (class time) we will use the following guidelines:
  • D.V. #1 - Remind student of the policy. Send an email to the student & family & document actions in Synergy (using DIGITAL VIOLATION to assist with data tracking).
  • D.V. #2 - Remind student of the policy. Send an email and make a phone call to the family, & document actions in Synergy.
  • D.V. #3 -Send a referral to admin, and they will address the situation with the student.

VISITOR MANAGEMENT

We use the Raptor Visitor Management System to monitor individuals in our buildings and on our campuses. By requiring a photo ID and screening all visitors, the Raptor system helps us ensure that only authorized individuals are on our campuses, thereby protecting our students and staff. This process is a foundational element of our daily operations that allows us to maintain a secure and predictable learning environment for all students
  • All visitors must provide a photo ID to check in. If you do not have a photo ID, our staff will guide you through an alternate check-in process.
  • Our staff will enter your ID into our Visitor Management System. The system will instantly screen for sex offenders and banned visitors.
  • At check-in, visitors will receive a name badge to wear while they are on campus.
  • All visitors will need to check out at the front office when they leave the school.
