Cross Country Advances at State

RHS Cross Country competed in districts on October 29 at Lane Community College, and two athletes advanced to state. Ethan Smith placed thirteenth in Boys Varsity and Rylie McLaughlin placed ninth in Girls Varsity. State Championships were on November 8 at Lane Community College. While at state, Ethan Smith placed one hundred and ninth in the boys’ 5K, and Rylie McLaughlin placed eighty-third in the girls’ 5K. The fastest RHS athlete over the season in the boys' 3K was James Randol, and the fastest in the girls’ 3K was Rylie Mclaughlin. The fastest athlete in the boys’ 5k was Joseph Latham and the fastest in the girls’ 5Kwas Rylie McLaughlin. Rylie McLaughlin said her favorite moment from this season was “when I got a higher placement in state than what I was originally seated, and the excitement on my coach's face will never be forgotten.” Ethan Smith said his favorite thing about cross country is that “[It] is a place where I feel like I fit in and know everybody, and everyone is very fun and supportive.” RHS Cross Country had 18 graduating seniors out of 38 athletes. Track and field season starts on March 2, 2026.
