Roseburg Color Guard Continues to Show Growth and Improvement

Color guard is a branch of marching band which is its own sport. While marching band happens during fall season, color guard happens throughout fall and winter. In the winter, the color guard is called the winter guard. Over the years, color guard has slowly been growing after COVID. Only a few years ago, RHS Color Guard had just four members, and now it has nearly twenty. This year in championships, RHS Color Guard got sixth place out of 28 bands. Donovan Loy-Steiner was one of the three captains of this year. He says his favorite part was "seeing everyone get better as the year went on and we improved a lot this year." They performed Cruisin’ this year. Donovan also stated that "my favorite one was the Robin Hood one." This year, they had someone who was previously in the color guard come back to coach, Percy Plough, who had been doing guard for four years. "The hardest part was learning to teach something I didn't even understand," Plough shared. Color guard has been through quite a few challenges this year and continues persevering.
