Coach Royal Brings the Roseburg Volleyball Team Together

This year's volleyball season has come to an end; the season had a pretty rough start as it was Mrs. Royal’s first time as the varsity coach, and she came in a little after the season already started. The team had some really great games this season and according to Mrs. Royal, one of the best moments was when they played senior night. “[It] was super fun when we were playing Sprague, which is a really hard team, but we got super close to beating them in the first set, and the girls were just playing really well,” she said. One of the members of the volleyball team, Isabella Nielsen said that her “middle kill against Sheldon, running into the chairs, and my serve receive” were her best moments this year. Her favorite game was the Crater game at one of the tournaments this year. She said it was because “we played all together and beat them.” Overall, Mrs. Royal described this year as a challenging season but a fun one too. Mrs. Royal went from coaching JV to coaching varsity, leaving the JV team without a replacement for a bit, so she had to coach two teams for a little while. Then the volleyball team also lost their JV2 coach, leaving Mrs. Royal coaching three teams for a time. After the entail hurdle the team was able to get back on their feet again, and towards the end of the season, Mrs. Royal stated that she felt like the team “[was] communicating better together, and I think attitudes on the court, like uplifting each other and just being more positive I think progressed over the season.” Mrs. Royal gave some tips on any students thinking about going into volleyball next year. She spoke about the club volleyball out in UCC called River Hawks that a few of our RHS volleyball members have joined. She also said that going to the YMCA just to play ball and practice is also a great way to start getting into volleyball. Mrs. Royal stated that if there were any extra questions you could go see her.
